I'd love to run the London Marathon next year. Of course there are physical and fundraising benefits, but there's also Paul's advice:
In the past, I might have assumed Paul didn't want us all running, because there are more 'spiritual' things to focus on. But now, I think he meant the opposite. Probably the best way to develop the disciplines for spiritual growth is to do some physical training, because the physical and the spiritual are intertwined.
I saw a documentary on Clive Woodward recently which explained how he led England to claim the Rugby World Cup. I was so impressed by his professionalism, his willingness to experiment with new methods and his 100% focus on excellence, which he instilled throughout the whole team and support staff.
My guess is that Paul the apostle would be up there with the very best team coaches, sports analysts and marathon runners if he were here in person today. And I'm sure he would strongly encourage us to become the very best kingdom people around.
